We will be hosting a sponsored ‘Trick or Trail’ event on Friday 31st October with optional spooky/Halloween dress up.
Trick or Trail is a spooky themed course which will be set up on the pitch with obstacles (designed by P5/6/7) such as:
Tunnel Tangle - a gazebo with pool noodles/steamers to run through and punch out of the way
Pumpkin Smash – a mini game of dodgeball where soft balls are thrown across the path to dodge (aimed knee and below)
Creepy Crawly Crawl – crawl under a cargo net
Spooky Shooting – netball/football shots
Haunted Hops – run through tyres, one foot in each
The floor is lava – stand on the stepping stones (if you miss/fall, go back to the last obstacle)
Spooky Spider crawl – attach spider webs to cones and crawl through them
At the end of last session, we had a very kind donation from Daniel Bell and his family towards the renovation of the outdoor shelter. Working with the children, they decided that they wanted to transform the shelter into an outdoor ‘Book Neuk’. The children have created designs and researched costs with their plans including a large mural on the back wall. With all of the sponsorship money raised, the Wellbeing Warriors will work hard to transform the space like we have never seen it before!
With Healthy Tuck Shop off to a flying start, we are continuing to promote healthy snacks through our new initiative 'Snack-tember!' See what it is all about in our posters below! We cannot wait for next week!
Our Wellbeing Warriors are from P4/5 and are supported by Miss Law.
On the last morning of term we had a whole school ‘Spruce up for Spring’ event. What a great way to brighten the school and grounds for spring, to plant more items for our sustainable project and to support the Pupil Council with their buddy bench! Well done everyone for mucking in.
As a thank you to everyone for their hard, the Wellbeing Warriors, with Lorraine’s help, served up some delicious vegetable soup at break time. To make it even more exciting, there were 2 secret vegetables in the soup and we had to guess what they were! (Check the upside down pictures at the bottom of this post for the answer!)
Our Wellbeing Warriors have been busy in class planting a variety of fruit and vegetables to help with their ‘Skene’s Sustainable Superheroes’ project. They have planted potatoes and tomatoes so far – we cannot wait for them to grow!
A ‘sell out’ for vegetables at tuck shop today, 28th February! Keep it up everyone!
In line with the national campaign, our Wellbeing Warriors are striving to encourage healthy choices at Skene School. Extending their Healthy Tuckshop options for a Wednesday, the group are now offering free vegetables alongside their options to purchase fruit. Each week they offer a different vegetable – so far we have had carrots, cucumber and peppers and have ‘sold out’ each week.
On Wellbeing Wednesday lunchtimes, Lorraine is on board to help promote salad at lunchtimes. We now have ‘House salad trays’ and we are looking to see which house takes the most AND eats it each week. We are also monitoring the waste bucket to make sure those greens are being eaten! Easterskene are in the lead with this one so far with Garlogie in 2nd and Carnie in 3rd.
To keep the healthy choices going at home, each pupil has a sticker chart to update every time they eat a portion of vegetables. For each completed chart that we receive, house points are awarded.
